Most wedding coordinators offer couples many of the same services and packages for pre- and post-vows. Each wedding coordinator sells a variety of wedding and vows packages that range from very “simple” to very elaborate. All of them also offer lots of “a la carte” services for which you will be charged fees for every item, down to the CD player rental to play the wedding or romantic music on the CD itself that you also purchase.
The simplest, most basic package, usually starts at around $300 and includes a ceremony at a free beach or other free location. Fees for packages and “a la carte” items can vary considerably. Look at the web sites presented below of wedding coordinators and you’ll understand better why we encourage you to examine them closely and, thereby, be more prepared to ask specific questions.
One of the few essential pre-wedding arrangements, booking a marriage license appointment, usually is handled as part of a basic package. If you don’t request this assistance from wedding coordinators, some of them will deduct $50 from your basic package that usually includes a non-denominational minister (unless you request otherwise, which might change the fee), vows on a beach and a lei for the bride, maybe the groom, too. In more expensive weddings, as part of the special package, brides get a Hakei Lei (head crown) and the groom gets a Maile-lei.
Photos usually are not included in the basic ceremony package. Hiring a photographer who takes enough photos to deliver 36 finished color photos (album an extra charge), providing one or two leis, a bouquet for the bride and some sparkling cider for bride and groom (alcoholic beverages are not allowed on Maui’s beaches) can cost as much as $450.
Extra costs included in more expensive packages or charged on a la carte basis may include: witnesses supplied; video and video editing services (digital provided on a CD/DVD or VHS); a musician or musicians (flat fee or by the hour); maybe a hula dancer and conch blower (for a “Hawaiian-style” wedding); a cake (that you pay for by the tier for 1-3 tiers); a bottle of Champaign (different quality, brand and prices); a commemorative marriage certificate; dinner for two (any additional dinner servings and you pay by the guest), perhaps on the beach or in a private cabana (extra, which may include the cost of a private chef and a waiter); stretch limo services charged by the hour; and other costs and fees.
