Maui truly is the best (no ka oi) for weddings, renewal of vows and honeymoons no matter what desire couples have for romantic locations, nuptial events, secluded getaways, scenic beauty, quiet or exciting activities, cuisine and pampering.
Some weddings and vows by choice will be extremely simple, just a minister, photographer and perhaps no guests or just a few relatives or close friends. For these ceremonies, beaches (public and free) are perfect locations. Ministers can set up a licensing appointment and all you have to do is select a photographer. Larger and more elaborate weddings and vows with more complex arrangements probably should have a wedding coordinator.
In addition to resort hotels (and their wedding coordinators whose job it is to attract and satisfy couples getting married or renewing vows), many vacation rentals, including retreats and estates on the South, West, North and East coasts provide incredible locations for weddings, honeymoons and romantic getaways.
Professional photographers and videographers, caterers, florists and other professional services on Maui are as good as you’ll find on the mainland. Be sure to contact the Maui Wedding Association (MWA) and request the latest edition of their Maui Wedding Planner that contains a roster of MWA members who provide every service you’ll need for your wedding. Most of Maui’s wedding coordinators charge a small fee for their services. Resident wedding coordinators have the advantage of knowing all about accommodations, transportation, concierge services, dining and activities.
Perfect Days will tell you a great deal about how to have a marvelous wedding or honeymoon experience on Maui, Lana’i or Moloka’i. The Maui Wedding Association and Perfect Days can be a great team for providing detailed information on how to take full advantage of available resources for weddings and vows in the Hawaiian Islands.
To obtain a marriage license in the State of Hawaii, there is no residence or even citizenship requirement. Blood tests or rubella shots are not required. Bride and groom have to be 18 years of age or older, appear together at the office of a marriage license agent with a birth certificate, driver’s license, passport or valid ID, and pay a $50 fee. Contact the Hawaii Dept. of Health (586-4545) to receive a license information packet. It’s that simple. Good luck and best wishes!
