Wailea Oceanfront

Park at Beach Access #108, off S. Kihei Rd., next to the Mana Kai Resort or Beach Access #109, and walk along Keawakapu Beach to Mokapu Beach (Wailea Renaissance Resort). Continue on Wailea’s oceanfront path to the Four Seasons Resort Maui for breakfast at the Pacific Grill or lunch at Ferraro’s at Seaside.beach

Romantic Dining & Walks

Make reservations for dinner at Sarento’s on the Beach,followed by a stroll along Keawakapu Beach, or at Spagoin the Four Seasons Resort, Nick’s Fishmarket at the Fairmont Kea Lani or Humuhumunukunukuapua’a at the Grand Wailea Resort, followed by a walk along Wailea’s oceanfront path.

Po’olenalena Beach at the Makena Surf.

From Wailea Alanui, turn right on Kaukahi St., left at the Polo Club on Makena Rd. to Palauea Beach and park. Walk through the grove of kiawe trees to the beach, turn left, walk along the beach to Haloa Point, climb up and around to the north end of Po’olenalena Beach (Chang’s Beach) and walk along the beach past the Makena Surf condos. Alternatively, drive down Makena Alanui Rd. past the Makena Surf condos to public parking at Beach Access #104 and park. Walk to the south end of Po’olenalena Beach before swimming, snorkeling or picnicking.

Malu’aka Beach at the Maui Prince Hotel

Continue driving on Makena Rd., past Five Graves, Nahuna Point and Makena Landing, where you’ll see scuba divers and snorkelers at one of their favorite spots, past the intersection on your left with Ho’oniki Rd. (on which you’ll exit later to Makena Alanui Rd.), and park at public parking across from Keawala’i Church (1832). Walk a short distance down the road to a parking turnout and Access #103 at the north end of beautiful Malu’aka Beach. Malu’aka will become one of your favorite beaches for swimming, snorkeling, walking and picnicking.

Alternatively, drive from Wailea on Makena Alanui Rd. past Kaukahi St., Honoiki St., and the Maui Prince Hotel to a dead-end sign on the right that leads to public parking and public access at the south end of Malu’aka Beach. In addition to a wonderful beach walk, you’ll find a small grassy hillock with lovely views for picnicking, with picnic tables, restrooms, and showers, and easy access to snorkeling and swimming. Plan for a beach trip and Sunday brunch at the Prince Court, Maui PrinceHotel, one of the best places on Maui for breakfasts and brunches. (And nothing wrong with lunch or dinner at any of the Maui Prince restaurants.)

Makena’s Big Beach

Drive on Makena Alanui Rd. past the first Makena State Park sign (first sign past the dead-end sign for Malu’aka Beach), which leads to Black Sand Beach (Onuoli) that usually has very few visitors. Drive on to the lot at the second Makena State Park sign to reach the north end of Big Beach (Oneola) that provides a wonderful walk of as much as several miles up and back.

Shoreline of La Pérouse Bay

The four-mile round-trip walk from the parking area at the La Pérouse Monument along the King’s Trail, past Beau Chien Beach, to Kanaio Beach that skirts the shoreline of La Pérouse Bay.

South Kihei Beaches

Start at Charley Young Beach Park and walk southward on Kamaole Beaches III, II and I with only a few intervening breaks. For a morning jog or constitutional, Kalama Park will do, before or after breakfast at several good choices along S. Kihei Rd.
