Shopping choices in Kapalua are limited, subdued and a very casual accompaniment to spectacular beach, bay and golf activities and restaurant choices in Kapalua and the vicinity. Since Ka’anapali and Lahaina are no more than 15-20 minutes away, there’s really no need for much of a shopping center in Kapalua.
The Kapalua Resort and its beaches should be enough to bring you up to Kapalua. For art lovers another incentive is the fabulous glasswork of internationally renowned Dale Chihuly, co-founder of Pilchuck Glass School exhibited at the Bella Vetri Gallery. In a much more modest gallery than the Elizabeth Doyle Gallery in The Shops at Wailea, more of Chihuly’s best works are exhibited.
Stop by the Village Gallery at the Ritz Carlton to see an excellent sampling of the many stellar Maui artists that you can view at the much larger Village Gallery in Lahaina. A fine jewelry store in Hawaii for more than 30 years, Haimhoff and Haimhoff Creations in Gold carries the original work of several jewelry designers including Harry Haimhoff. One of the most interesting shops in Kapalua is the Hawaiian Quilt Collection. Hawaiian quilting patterns and Hawaiian quilts are some of the most treasured works of art in Hawaii. This store gives you an opportunity to see Hawaiian quilts and wall hangings, pillow covers, handbags and accessories, and other items that make first-rate gifts.
For breakfast visit the Sea House or Gazebo on Napili Bay, the Honolua Store on Office Rd. near the Ritz Carlton, The Gardenia Court at the Kapalua Bay Hotel, the Plantation House Restaurant, Vino or Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar. For lunch try either the Banyan Tree or The Beach House Bar & Grill at the Ritz-Carlton Maui next to D.T. Fleming Beach. Other choices for lunch and dinner in the Kapalua area include The Plantation House Restaurant and the Sea House Restaurant. One of the most appealing aspects of staying at a vacation rental in Napili and Kapalua is the abundance of really good places to eat within a 10-minute drive. In addition to the restaurants and eateries already mentioned: in Napili, ribs and roast chicken from Mama’s Ribs & Rotisserie and Orient Express at Napili Shores Resort serving Japanese, Chinese and Thai food; and in Kahana, Fish & Game Brewing Co. & Rotisserie, Roys, Reilly’s and Honokowai Okazuya & Deli.
