Areas of Maui
Most of Maui consists of undeveloped mountainous terrain. The rest of Maui can be divided into four main sections:
- Central Maui between Kahului and Ma’alaea that contains Maui’s only cities, Wailuku and Kahului and, outside of these urban areas, still is largely planted with sugarcane and pineapples.
- West Maui, from Ma’alaea through Lahaina and Ka’anapali to Kapalua and around the West Maui Mountains and Northwest Coast to Wailuku;
- South Maui from Ma’alaea to Kihei, Wailea, Makena and La Perouse;
- East Maui, which includes Paia and the North Shore, Makawao and Upcountry, around the flanks of Haleakala to Hana.
